Jane travels the world teaching others how to work with the ethically tanned skins of salmon, cod, carp, and tilapia. She has even had occasion to explain the finer points of ocean leather to Her Majesty the Queen.
Jane teaches week-long summer courses working with felt and sinamay at Central St Martins London. She also has online tutorials on fish leather projects with The Hat Academy and Katherine Elizabeth.

Katie Vale
Back in 2004, the fashion was to have sleek, straight long hair – neat and groomed. As the proud owner of some pretty uncontrollable curls, Katie couldn’t find anything in the high street to put in her hair, so started making things instead. Having been stopped in the street several times and asked where her hair “things” were from, she decided to go to evening school to build on her creative skills.
Since then, Katie has learned the traditional art of millinery, completed many courses in wire work and spent several years training with the wonderful Rose Cory, MBE, former Milliner by Royal Appointment to the late Queen Mother.
In 2006 she launched Katie Vale Designs and in the intervening years, has designed and handmade hundreds of hats in her studio. She loves her craft and is passionate about making hats that make her clients happy and confident. A Katie Vale design is always made with great thought and care.
As well as being a proud co-founder and Ambassador of the BMA, Katie recently launched The Millinery School with Katie Vale.
Katie is also a familiar and helpful point of contact for BMA members as the organisation’s Member Coordinator.
