QEST Scholar Jane Fryers is a millinery artist and master of the unusual.
She creates bespoke hats using traditional techniques learned from the late Queen Mother’s milliner, Rose Cory MBE, and combining them with surprising fabrics. She has created couture headwear from 35mm film, pre-loved cashmere jumpers, a handbag and stair carpet trim, as well as her favourite material; fish leather. Jane teaches week long summer courses working with felt & sinamay at Central St Martins in London’s Kings Cross.
She also travels the world teaching others how to work with the ethically tanned skins of salmon, cod, carp and tilapia.
She has even had occasion to explain the finer points of ocean leather to Her Majesty the Queen.
